The Second Children’s Waste Management International Conference is held in Baku

The Second Children’s Waste Management International Conference was launched following the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative, November 15th, in Qala Settlement, under the slogan “Reuse. Reduce. Recycle.”, within the enlightenment program of the project “Clean Qala” being implemented by “Clean City” OJSC.

The 15th of November is the Day of Wastes Sorting.

Along with children from Azerbaijan, the event is attended also by schoolchildren from Georgia, Russia, Turkey, Belarus, Ukraine and Uzbekistan that take an interest in ecology and environment.

The objective of holding this three-day conference is to ensure children’s participation in protection of the environment, teaching them the correct waste sorting methods, sorting of domestic  wastes, holding discussions on the subjects of economical use of natural resources, and, thus, increasing their awareness. Exchange of knowledge among schools of different countries in waste management is also one of the key targets of the conference.

Alternative education methods are also used at the international conference. Sessions and panel discussions of the conference are completely organized by children. Discussion type workshops are held by specialists of “Clean City” OJSC and independent experts.

On November 16th, guided tours will be organized for schoolchildren to solid wastes sorting and incineration factories operating in Balakhany settlement in order to acquaint children with the process of waste management.

“EkoSfera” Public Union has provided organizational support to holding of the conference.
