Azerbaijan is represented at the International Architects Union’s congress with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation

A regular congress of the International Architects Union (IAU) took place in Seoul. The congress, which is considered to be the largest event in the sphere of architecture, was attended by over 10 thousand participants representing 124 countries, including architects, government officials, scientists, and students. Called “The Architecture Olympiad”, the congress was organized by the International Architects Union, the Seoul Municipality and the Korean Architecture Institutes Federation.

 

Azerbaijan participated in the congress with an extensive delegation. The delegation included Assistant to the First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alakbarov, Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Korea Ramzi Teymurov, Chairperson of the Azerbaijan Architects Union Elbay Gasymzadeh, and architects.

 

In the framework of the congress, which is held every three years, various events – exhibitions, symposiums, workshops, contests and conferences – took place. Moreover, officials of the management was elected at sittings of the General Assembly - the supreme body of IAU, and reports were heard.  

 

On September 10, a presentation dedicated to Azerbaijan took place in the framework of the General Assembly of the International Architects Union.

 

Assistant to the First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alakbarov spoke about the achievements Azerbaijan, a young independent country, has reached in various spheres, saying that our republic has been recognized as a reliable partner due to its growing influence on the international arena. He brought to attention that in Azerbaijan, where Western and Eastern cultures come together, traditions of tolerance and multiculturalism have dominated historically.

 

A.Alakbarov, noting that Azerbaijan has recent years hosted a number of international events, sports competitions, cultural and humanitarian forums on the highest level, brought to attention that the international community has given high appreciation to the organizational skills of our country.

 

The assistant to the first vice-president said that Azerbaijan is ready to host future congresses of the International Architects Union.

 

Chairperson of the Azerbaijan Architects Union Elbay Gasymzadeh talked about our country’s architectural traditions, as well as the buildings constructed recent years that attract attention from the architectural standpoint. He underscored that the entity led by him has been actively participating in the activities of the International Architects Union, recalling the events, contests and festivals of international significance organized in Baku in the field of architecture.

 

At the Seoul assembly, Chairperson of the Azerbaijan Architects Union Elbay Gasymzadeh was elected a bureau member of the International Architects Union.

 

Finally, a documentary about Azerbaijan’s history, nature, cultural heritage, history and modern architectural monuments was shown.

 

At an exhibition held in the framework of the congress, an extensive corner and a pavilion called “Baku on the crossroads of the East and West” functioned with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

 

Means promoting Azerbaijan’s history, culture, art, architecture, literature and tourism potential, including various publications, examples of carpet and national garments, music instruments, a mock-up of Baku’s historical and contemporary architectural monuments, handicrafts and souvenirs with national ornaments were displayed at the pavilion and corner. Moreover, video films related to our country, its history, sightseeing, modern development, culture, architecture, international events hosted by Azerbaijan, events held by First Vice-president Mehriban Aliyeva and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation both in Azerbaijan and abroad towards promoting Azerbaijan’s culture, and tolerant and multicultural values of Azerbaijan were shown.

 

In the framework of the congress, “The Evening of Azerbaijan” was held by the Azerbaijan Architects Union and Azerbaijan’s embassy in the Korean Republic, supported by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. At the evening, examples of historical and contemporary architecture of Azerbaijan and a photo stand reflecting Azerbaijan’s natural beauties was arranged, and the guests were presented various publications of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation about Azerbaijan.

  

Speaking at the ceremony, where officials of the International Architects Union, delegations from member-countries, representatives of the diplomatic corps and local general public were represented, ambassador Ramzi Teymurov talked about Azerbaijan’s successful development in the contemporary era under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. The diplomat gave information about the works carried out by First Vice-president Mehriban Aliyeva towards promoting Azerbaijan’s culture throughout the world, emphasizing the significance of the projects and events implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation , headed by her, both in our country and abroad.

 

Vice-president of the International Architects Union Hayder Ali, sharing his impressions of Azerbaijan, said our country enjoyed an old and rich culture. Talking about the development he has witnessed in Azerbaijan, he highly appreciated the attention shown by the country’s leadership towards preserving and developing the culture.

 

A concert programme comprised of our national dances performed by members of “Mirvari” Dance Group, and Azerbaijani ethno-jazz music by tarzan Shahriyar Imanov and his group was presented. Impressed by the charming Azerbaijani music, guests danced “Yally” together with our dancers.

 

Dishes from the Azerbaijani cuisine were also presented at the official banquet.
