Opening of an exhibition dedicated to the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between Azerbaijan and Russia takes place in the Russian State Duma

Opening of an exhibition dedicated to the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between Azerbaijan and Russia took place, February 7, in the building of the State Duma, with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia, and the Russian State Duma’s Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Work with Fellow-citizens.

Chairperson of the Azerbaijan National Assembly Ogtay Asadov and chairperson of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin attended the opening ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vyacheslav Volodin thanked the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for the organization of the exhibition, which allows to become familiarized with Azerbaijan’s history, culture, and its present day. He noted that the peoples of Azerbaijan and Russia have fought against fascism in the World War 2, and today, our friendship is strengthening and developing. Such events contribute to strengthening bilateral relations further, creating conditions for the discussion of urgent issues. “Decisions taken by our presidents Ilham Aliyev and Vladimir Putin form the bedrock of the relations between our countries. We, together with my counterpart Ogtay Asadov, create conditions for arranging bilateral visits and holding meetings in order to contribute to the development of our relations further, and for better understanding of each-other”, - said V.Volodin.

The Duma chairman said that, via the exhibition organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Russians will become acquainted with sights of Azerbaijan, use this country’s tourism potential, and contemplate spending their holidays in this country.

Ogtay Asadov, thanking the organizers of the exhibition, said such meetings and exhibitions will contribute to developing the relations between Russia and Azerbaijan further. He said: “ Mutual official visits and meetings of presidents Ilham Aliyev and Vladimir Putin have been playing a great role in the development of our relations. Over 200 bilateral documents have been signed between our countries as a result of these visits and meetings. I am sure the Azerbaijan-Russia relations will develop further. In one of his visits to the Russian Federation, Ilham Aliyev had said if all relations in the world were like those between Russia and Azerbaijan, there would be no problem. To my mind, these words express the Azerbaijan-Russia relations more substantially”.

The head of the Azerbaijani Parliament thanked the leadership of the Russian State Duma and Russian MPs for the conditions created for holding this exhibition.

Speaking at the exhibition’s inauguration ceremony, chairperson of the State Duma’s Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Work with Fellow-citizens Leonid Kalashnikov, chairperson of the Russian Communist Party’s Central Committee Gennady Zyuganov, chairperson of the State Duma’s Committee for International Affairs Leonid Slutski, leader of Spravedlivaya Rossiya Party Sergey Mironov, chairperson of the Azerbaijani National Assembly’s Committee for International and Interparliamentary Relations Samad Seyidov talked about the development of the Azerbaijan-Russia relations.
