4th International Mugham Contest is launched

Inauguration of the 4th International Mugham Contest took place at the Azerbaijan National Conservatoire, March 15. 


At the contest organized within the Mugham World 4th International Mugham Festival being held by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Azerbaijan Composers Union, musicians from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Jordan, Latvia, Iran, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and China will participate. 


First a draw took place on the instrumental mugham performance. Then participants presented their performance. In the first round of the contest, representatives of Azerbaijan Mustafa Ashurov (tar),  Zargalam Jafarova  (kamancha), Aygul Hasanova (canon),Toghrul Orujov (kamancha), Bakhysh Binyatov (balaban) and Turkish representative Tolga Karaslan (ud), Tareg Jundi from Jordan (ud), and Mustafa Zair from Iraq (ud) performed on the scene.


Performances are assessed by a Jury with international membership chaired by People’s artist of Azerbaijan Siyavush Karimi. Membership of the jury includes Daryush Talayi from Iran, Sheherizada Hassan from Iraq, Suleyl Khuri from Palestine and Pierre Bois from France. 


Along with Azerbaijan, 11 khanendehs (singers) representing Iran, Latvia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and China will perform at the contest.


Participants will be assessed by a jury comprised of Kudsi Erguner (Turkey), Sharada Velankar (India), Alexander Jumayev (Uzbekistan) and Brahim Al Mazneddan (Morocco), chaired by Siyavush Karimi.


On March 16, the second round of the competition will come to an end, and on the 17th, names of the winners will be announced. A gala concert will take place with participation of the winners at the closing ceremony of the Mugham World 4th International Mugham Festival, March 18.
