A document certifying the inclusion of Azerbaijan’s kelaghayi art into UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity is presented to President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva

Official opening of the 3rd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue on the theme “Sharing Culture for a Shared Security” took place in Baku, May 18. 


President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva attended the ceremony.


UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, who takes part in the Forum, presented the document certifying the inclusion of Azerbaijan’s kelaghayi art into UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity to Mehriban Aliyeva.


At the meeting of UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Intangible Heritage held on 26 November 2014, Azerbaijan’s kelaghayi art was entered on UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity under the title of “Traditional art and symbolism of Kelaghayi”.


In addition to kelaghayi, Azerbaijan’s mugham performance art, ashyg art, Novruz Holiday, Azerbaijani carpet, tar playing art were also entered on UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and Chovken, Garabagh’s traditional horseback played game, was entered on the organization’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding.
