Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva meets FAO officials

Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder of IDEA Public Association and Goodwill Ambassador of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Leyla Aliyeva met, May 5, head of FAO machinery Mario Lubetkin and head of the organization’s Office for Partnership and Coordination in Azerbaijan Melek Çakmak, who are participating in the 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.

 

At the meeting, the significance of the Forum - which is held in Baku and has already become a platform for global intercultural dialogue – in protecting peace, tranquillity and improving well-being was emphasized. From this perspective, the parties mentioned the role of food in strengthening the relations between cultures, as well as preserving products and diversity of national cuisines.

 

Leyla Aliyeva highly appreciated the activities of FAO in Azerbaijan, and noted that recently a joint project launched by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, IDEA Public Association and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources on laying out fruit orchards for low-income families in the regions of the country has been implemented successfully. She thanked the organization’s leadership for the possibility of establishing an Azerbaijani room in FAO’s headquarters.

 

During the talk, exchange of opinions took place around the issues on combatting hunger, ensuring sustainable development and protecting the environment, as well as FAO’s participation in the protection and increasing the number of sturgeons in the Caspian Sea.

 

FAO officials said they were ready to share the organization’s expertise in correct nourishment in schools and support the actions to be taken in our country in this direction.
