Reconstruction works start in the Baku Zoological Park following Leyla Aliyeva's initiative

Reconstruction and restoration works start in the Baku Zoological Park, which has been in operation  for over 80 years, following the initiative of Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of IDEA Public Association Leyla Aliyeva.

City residents had addressed numerous appeals, in connection with repairing the Baku Zoological Park, to Leyla Aliyeva, who has been distinguished for her activities aiming to protect the environment and animals.

Leyla Aliyeva, having paid another visit to the Baku Zoological Park on June 28, made herself familiarized with the existing conditions, and the works to be done here.

Widening of the Zoological Park’s territory, turning it into a more comfortable for visitors place, improving the conditions of keeping animals and putting various facilities of entertainment in the area into operation are provided for in the framework of the repair and building works to be carried out here.

As a result of the reconstruction works to be performed, the Zoo’s territory will be doubled. With a view to ensuring that animals live in conditions more similar to those of their own habitat and arranging easy and more delightful visits for city residents and guests, a more natural environment will be created in the park, with a new design.

The Zoological Park will be a place where physically disabled people, as well as visitors of all age groups can easily rest and become enlightened on.

Trainings will be arranged for the employees of the Zoo, to be conducted by specialists with international expertise. Animals will be kept in conditions meeting the requirements of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA). Cages (enclosures) where animals will be kept are going to be made taking account of their unique needs, and their area will be widened. Visitors will have a chance to view animals’ behaviour, and receive comprehensive information about the animals from enlightening boards and materials.

The Zoo will become an education, research and conservation centre where all groups of the society can get information about animals and natural ecosystem, in particular, the unique nature of Azerbaijan. Special emphasis will be put on implementation of programmes aiming at enriching knowledge of the youth and children about the nature, and its protection.

A pet farm comprised of children’s favourite animals and butterflies home will also function within the zoo for tender-age children. Construction of a quarantine zone and a rehabilitation centre for wounded and diseased animals is also provided for here.

At the same time, with a view to increasing the efficiency of the Zoological Park’s operation and improving relations with the society, a new webpage will be set up.

Having being in the service of Baku residents and guests of the city for over 80 years, the Baku Zoological Park invites everyone to support it by following the park on social networks, the web page and mass media, after the reconstruction works are over, and witness it’s becoming a place where a human, nature and animals come together.
