Inauguration of the 5th International Mugham Festival takes place in the Heydar Aliyev Palace

An extensive concert programme was presented in the Heydar Aliyev Palace on the occasion of the Mugham World 5th International Mugham Festival’s inauguration, March 7.

 

Jointly conducted by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Science, the Composers Union and the Azerbaijan National Conservatoire, the Festival is joined by over 15 countries.

 

Giving an interview to correspondents before the concert, rector of the Azerbaijan National Conservatoire, People’s Artist, prof. Siyavush Karimi talked about the Festival’s significance.

 

An international mugham contest will be organized during the period from March 10 to 13 at the Azerbaijan National Conservatoire. Participants of the contest will be evaluated by eminent representatives of music culture from Azerbaijan, Poland, Turkey, Iran, and Tajikistan.

 

The contest will be conducted on the instrumental and vocal sections. Holding of music evenings are also planned in the Conservatoire. “Garabagh” mugham group and “Gaytaghy” instrumental ensemble will accompany renowned artists and musicians, such as Mansim Ibrahimov, Anvar Sadykhov, Tayyar Bayramov, Aytan Maharramova, Kamran Karimov, Idris Huseynov, and Kamran Novruzov.

 

In the concerts to be arranged at the International Mugham Centre, the mughams “Rast”, “Shur”, “Segah”, “Chahargah”, “Bayaty-shiraz”, “Shushter” and “Humayun” will be presented to the audience by such talented khanendehs as Elnur Zeynalov, Gochag Asgerov, Arzu Aliyeva, Babek Niftaliyev, Nisbat Sadrayeva, Mammad Najafov, Abgyul Mirzaliyev etc.

 

Performances of the Azerbaijan State Symphonic Orchestra named after Uzeir Hajibeyli, the State Popular Music Instruments Orchestra, the Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra named after Gara Garayev, as well as the Azerbaijan State Dance Ensemble, the State Choir, the Azerbaijan State Song and Dance Ensemble and “Jangi” Ethno-jazz Group are provided for during the Festival.

 

During the Festival days, guests will have a chance to see Uzeir Hajibeyli’s “Koroghlu” Opera, Gara Garayev’s “Seven Beauties” Ballet and Muslim Magomayev’s “Shah Ismail” Opera  at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, the music comedy “O Olmasyn Bu Olsun” at the State Music Theatre, and the puppet show “Leyli and Majnun” on the basis of Uzeir Hajibeyli’s same-name work at the Puppet Theatre.

 

Concerts will be arranged in the framework of the Festival in Baku and Ganja cities, where musicians from Azerbaijan and foreign countries will perform.

 

Extensive and colourful concert programme was presented to the audience on the first day of the “Mugham World” 5th International Mugham Festival by the Azerbaijan State Symphonic Orchestra named after Uzeir Hajibeyli (conductor Fakhraddin Karimov), the Azerbaijan State Choir (artistic director Gyulbajy Imanova), the Azerbaijan State Song and Dance Ensemble’s dance group (choreographer Jamila Bayramova) and the Baku Choreography Academy’s ballet company (conductor Fakhraddin Karimov).
