An article is printed in a Moroccan newspaper about the multilateral activity of President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva

An article entitled “The role of Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in the Azerbaijani society” was printed in the August issue of the Arabic-language newspaper “Al-Islah wa at-Tanmiyya”.

 

In the article, readers are provided with detailed information about the multilateral activity of Mehriban Aliyeva as the first lady, president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO goodwill ambassadors, president of the Culture Foundation of Azerbaijan, and an MP. It is brought to attention that Mehriban Aliyeva was honoured with the titles of goodwill ambassadors of UNESCO in 2004 and ISESCO in 2006, and the international prize “Golden Heart” in 2007.

 

The author states that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, headed by Mehriban Aliyeva, has made great contribution to social and cultural projects in Azerbaijan, and in a number of Islamic countries. It is further noted that modern schools have been built in Azerbaijan with the support of the Foundation, these schools have been provided with all necessary equipment, and a new education method meeting the latest standards are applied in the country.

 

It is also stated in the article that having founded the Friends of the Azerbaijani Culture Foundation in 1995, Mehriban Aliyeva had set herself as an object implementing this noble mission, and that she had made her contribution to liberating Azerbaijan’s national culture from the crisis and to its development by her high-level initiatives, public activity, and management qualities. Other works carried out towards preserving tangible and intangible cultural, art examples of the Azerbaijani people - which has been enjoying ancient traditions - its folklore and music, and promotion on a world scale are also brought to attention. It is further emphasized that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has been closely inquiring about peoples’ problems, showing special care and attention towards Azerbaijanis who have become refugees and IDPs as a result of the Armenian aggression.

 

The author states that amnesty acts passed at the parliament following MP Mehriban Aliyeva’s initiative have been welcomed by the public with great sympathy. It is noted that enjoying wide public support, these amnesty acts were of great moral, ethical and political significance.

 

It is further noted that as a result of the works carried out during the period past, hundreds of secondary schools were built by the Foundation and, moreover, the project “Support to Education” was implemented with great success, and within the framework of this project, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has constructed a girls’ school in Pakistan in place of the one destroyed as a result of an earthquake, and a French lyceum started to operate in Baku, boarding schools and kindergartens have been provided with all necessary equipment. It is noted in the article that the Foundation has carried out matchless works in the field of healthcare too and, in addition to many healthcare institutions built in the capital and the regions, it has provided support to solution of a number of problems concerning the society, and the state-of-the art Thalassemia Centre was built in Baku.

 

The author has also touched upon the activities of the Foundation towards promoting Azerbaijan’s culture beyond the country’s borders and states that the Foundation has exerted tireless efforts towards organizing festivals of Azerbaijani music and mugham, exhibitions, and creativity evenings of Azerbaijani poets and writers.

 

The article brings to the attention of the readers that Mehriban Aliyeva was honoured with the Heydar Aliyev Prize, ‘Senior Commander Cross’ Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland in 2009, Officer Degree of ‘Legion of Honour’ of France in 2010, and “Hilal-e-Pakistan” Order of Pakistan in 2015.
