The 1st International Sculpture Symposium “Music in Stone” is held with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation

The 1st International Sculpture Symposium “Music in Stone” started in Baku, September 24, within the framework of the 7th “Maiden Tower” International Art Festival, with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

14 sculptors from Azerbaijan, Spain, Hungary, Germany, USA, Bulgaria, Mexico, India, Georgia and Macedonia participate in the event.

During the time the symposium continues, the participants will create various works from local stones (Shamkir’s sandstone, Absheron’s limestone). The sculptors are working in Baku’s Qala Settlement, in the open air.

Well-known sculptor from Hungary Beata Rostas said natural stones in Azerbaijan are very suitable to create art works: “The types of stone we have been presented are very easy to work with. I am confident we can reflect our creative ideas on these materials in full”.

There is no limit on the subject for sculptors; they are completely free to express themselves. These people of art are working on love, love of life, and other subjects.

Laureate of Georgia’s State Prize Gennady Zakaraia decided to use Oriental ornaments in his works: “I was astonished at Baku’s architecture. The synthesis of the old with modernity is very beautifully reflected in the city’s architecture. Having received an invitation to Azerbaijan, I decided I would use the Oriental colours more in my work to be created”.

Works to be created within the framework of the Symposium, which will continue until October 2, will be displayed in one of the parks of Baku city.
