Presentation of the film “Under The Single Sun” produced with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation takes place

On December 5, presentation of the documentary “Under The Single Sun”, shot by the Baku Media Centre with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, took place.

Head of the project, film’s chief producer Arzu Aliyeva participated in the presentation.

Before the presentation started, participants made themselves familiarized with a photo-stand reflecting national and ethnic varieties existing in Azerbaijan, in the foyer of the Nizami Cinema Centre.

Produced within the framework of “The Year of Multiculturalism”, the film talks about the life of the ethnic minorities living in Azerbaijan, with their different culture, traditions, language, and   religious beliefs.

In the process of making the film, a camera crew consisting of 15 people travelled various districts of Azerbaijan, arranging excursions to 54 villages and settlements. During these trips of experimental nature, interviews with134 representatives of 17 ethnic groups were filmed. Only one of tens of representatives of an ethnic group had been chosen for a shooting. An individual presenting more precisely the identity of the people he/she represented by his/her speech, anthropological traits, day-to-day activities was given priority.

During the expedition, photographers of the camera crew filmed 3850 landscapes showing Azerbaijan’s beauty, and 2625 people related to various ethnic minorities living in this nature’s lap.

Shootings were performed in all seasons of the year. This allowed to show the many-colouredness of the Azerbaijani nature.

It was also noted in the film’s presentation ceremony that the project “Under The Single Sun” was presented in July this year during the Days of Azerbaijani Culture held in the French city of Cannes, with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Within the framework of this project, the exhibition and film of the same name, dedicated to multiculturalism and tolerance in Azerbaijan, aroused great interest. In the opening ceremony of the “Village d’Azerbaijan” in Paris, September 19, an exhibition was arranged in the framework of the project “Under The Single Sun”, and photos dedicated to multiculturalism and tolerance in Azerbaijan, as well a documentary of the same name in French were demonstrated.

It was brought to attention that translation of the documentary “Under The Single Sun” into other languages is expected. President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, author of the basic idea Mehriban Aliyeva was expressed gratitude for the support she has provided to the implementation of another grandiose project serving to promotion of Azerbaijan throughout the world.

Then, the film was shown.

Representatives of various peoples and ethnic groups in Azerbaijan have been living for hundreds of years on the territories where their ancestors had lived, preserving their language, religious identity and national traditions, and convey them to future generations. All these mean that multiculturalism is a state policy and lifestyle in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan proves, by its policy, active participation of the representatives of different nationalities and confessions living in our country in the processes going on in our society, and by ensuring the mutual development of different cultures that multiculturalism is alive and is among the primary factors of the world’s development. This is the keynote of the film “Under The Single Sun”, implemented in the framework of “The Year of Multiculturalism”, as all people in this country are living under the single Sun.

The film, along with delivering to the audience the history and daily life of the ethnic minorities living in Azerbaijan, also shows that these people, although talking different languages, having different faiths, have for centuries lived on these lands in an environment of mutual understanding, and this tradition has been preserved to date. Representatives of different religious faiths perform their religious rites, where traces of the culture and traditions of 17 ethnic groups are seen. Characters of the film talk in 17 languages, each in his/her mother tongue.

The basic message the film conveys to the audience is that a tolerant environment dominates in Azerbaijan and here, all people are living equally, regardless of their language, religion and culture. Each short subject clearly shows that although generations change, no ethnic people changes its traditions, language and religious belief, conversely, they are immortalized by being conveyed to future generations. Not only peoples’ lifestyle, their services to the development of the modern Azerbaijan, their respect for the laws of the state they are citizens of, but also great love for the Homeland are once more demonstrated in the film. It is for this reason that they say with great pride: “Azerbaijan is Our Homeland”.
