Opening of the 9th International Rostropovich Festival takes place

Opening of the 9th International Rostropovich Festival took place at the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic named after Muslim Magomayev, April 23. The Festival is held with the joint support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation, and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

 

The Festival has been organized on the basis of the Azerbaijani President’s Resolution “On Celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Mstislav Rostropovich”.

 

Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev, making a speech, said today is a significant day for our country, and the music society. Mentioning that the Festival is being held for the 9th time already, the minister valued this music holiday as one of the most important events in the cultural life of Azerbaijan.

 

It was told that M.Rostropovich is the creator of the Shostakovich Festival, a classic music festival held in Baku in 2006.

 

Held in accordance with the relevant Resolution signed by President Ilham Aliyev, the Festival’s significance was highly appreciated, and was underscored that a series of very interesting events and concert programmes will be arranged during the days of Festival. It was also noted that the International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival is held with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and, especially, Azerbaijan’s First Vice-president Mehriban Aliyeva.

 

Expressing his confidence that the Festival will be a nice music holiday, the minister of culture and tourism thanked the participating music groups.

 

President of the Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation, Festival’s artistic director Olga Rostropovich said Baku was one of her most favourite cities. Saying that this was the 9th time that the festival is held, O.Rostropovich brought to attention that a number of well-known music groups will perform at the Festival. She thanked President Ilham Aliyev, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Azerbaijan’s First Vice-president Mehriban Aliyeva, as well as those who loves the Rostropovich creativity.

 

Then, the Festival was launched by a concert programme of the Azerbaijan State Symphonic Orchestra named after Uzeir Hajibeyli, led by People’s Artist Rauf Abdullayev. Works by J.Verdi, P.Tchaikovsky, O.Respighi and K.Mirzazadeh were performed at the concert.

 

World-renowned musicians and bands from foreign countries – the Saint-Petersburg Academic Symphonic Orchestra - Russia’s honoured group, the Vienna-Berlin Chamber Orchestra, the Dresden Staatscapella etc. - will perform at the festival, which will continue until April 27.
