A meeting of the International Architects Union’s 2nd Regional Section Member Presidents takes place in Baku

On June 2, a meeting of the International Architects Union’s 2nd Regional Section Member Presidents took place at the Heydar Aliyev Centre, in Baku. The event was held with the organizational support of the International Architects Union, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Heydar Aliyev Center and the Azerbaijan Architects Union.

Before the meeting, the participants paid a visit to the graves of national leader Heydar Aliyev and eminent ophthalmologist-academician Zarifa Aliyeva at the Alley of Honour. Then they visited the graves, at the Martyr’s Alley, of our heroic sons and girls who have sacrificed their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

The participants of the event viewed a photo stand reflecting designs of Azerbaijani architects, as well as our historical monuments located on the territories occupied by Armenia that were subjected to Armenian terror.

Opening the meeting, Chairperson of the Azerbaijan Architects Union’s Board of Directors Elbay Gasymzadeh talked about the path of development this type of art has gone through in our country. He said the development of architecture has always been a focus of attention of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva. Today, enjoying the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, a number of historical architectural monuments are restored both in Azerbaijan and in a number of foreign countries.

Elbay Gasymzadeh brought to attention that First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva was elected an honorary member of the Architects Union. He also mentioned that Mehriban Aliyeva has been awarded the commemorative medal “Academician Mikail Huseynov” for her activities towards preserving Azerbaijan’s architectural heritage, and her contribution to this sphere.

Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev, speaking at the event, talked about the support provided by the state to the development of architecture. He said, thanks to this support, currently, architecture has been enjoying the period of evolution. Along with constructing new, modern buildings, repairing and restoring ancient architectural monuments are placed special emphasis. National leader Heydar Aliyev had, back in the Soviet times, paid special attention to creation of beautiful examples of architecture in Azerbaijan. Today, President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-president Mehriban Aliyeva are continuing this work successfully. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has been supporting restoration of historical architectural monuments not only in Azerbaijan, but also in foreign countries.
