A sports ground has been built in India's Goa State, following the Heydar Aliyev Foundation's initiative

A sports ground has been built and commissioned in the Goa State of India, following the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative.

Education centres in Goa are located  in the cities of Panjim, Margao, Mapusa and Vasco. Absence of a public transport between the surrounding villages and the cities causes great hardships for children going to school. In order to solve this problem, “Pilar” Catholic Society  has built 10 schools, 1 Catholic college and an orphans home in the neighbourhood. At present, thousands of children are educated at these schools.

Following the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, which had provided disinterested support to these schools built for charity purposes,   a sports ground has been built there for children.

The inauguration of the stadium called “Father Agnelo” was attended by Ambassador of Azerbaijan to India Ibrahim Hajiyev, and  representatives of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

In his speech, Ambassador Ibrahim Hajiyev noted that the relations between these two countries rely on historical roots, and described the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative as another contribution to strengthening of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and India.

After the official opening ceremony, first football match was played in the new stadium. “Pilar” Orphans Home and combined teams of the Goa State competed. Children from the orphans home played in the friendly match under the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s flag.
