Presentation of the Baku-2015 First European Games takes place in Brussels

Presentation of the Baku-2015 First European Games took place, April 14, in Brussels, Belgium, with organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Azerbaijan’s Embassy in this country. 


Minister of sports and youth of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov, former President of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge, General Secretary of Belgium Olympic Committee Philipp Vander Putten and Vice-president of the European Parliament Richard Henry Charnetsky delivered a speech at the event organized at Egmont Palace.


The ceremony was attended by Belgium’s public and political persons, as well as representatives of embassies accredited in this country. 


Preparation for the first European Games in Azerbaijan was talked about at the event and a documentary devoted to Baku-2015 shown. In the documentary, information is provided about the preparation for the first European Games and works carried out in Azerbaijan towards developing sports in Azerbaijan. 


Minister of youth and sport Azad Rahimov talked about the achievements reached by Azerbaijan recent years in sports, and added that Azerbaijan’s being chosen to host these Games was the result of this achievement and the great state care shown towards sport. 


Former president of the International Olympic Committee Jacque Rogge said this grandiose sports event to be hosted by Azerbaijan will inspire sportsmen and the youth all over the world. 


Noting that the Baku-2015 First European Games will remain in peoples’ memory for long, General Secretary of Belgium Olympic Committee Philippe Vander Putten and Vice-president of the European Parliament Richard Henry Charnetsky said this significant sports event was of significance also in terms of extending relations between countries.


Then various jazz compositions were presented to the guests by pianist and jazz performer Elchin Shirinov and accompanying him musicians. Attendees of the event viewed a photo-stand allowing the guests to get acquainted with capital Baku and regions of Azerbaijan. At the end, various publications - books and musical discs - of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation were presented to the guests.
