The Regional Information Centre for physically disabled people was put into operation in Yevlakh

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the Regional Information Centre built on the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative in the city of Yevlakh, October 7.


President Ilham Aliyev cut the ribbon symbolizing the inauguration of the Centre.


It was informed that the Centre was constructed within the framework of  the project “Provision of access for blind and visually impaired people to ICT” by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Constructed at the Heydar Aliyev Avenue of the city, the three-storied centre has five classrooms, one education room, one audio-studio room,  a library and other subsidiary rooms. Provided with equipment imported from abroad, the model ICT classrooms have already been created, the library and education centres started to operate. Thus, a serious step was made forward to improve the possibilities for blind and visually impaired children to use the Braille books. In addition, works have been done towards preparation of an audio-library and an audio-format of all types of required literature for blind and visually impaired people. Currently this process continues.


A computer centre also was put into operation at the Centre. Works have been done aimed at training teachers to teach blind and visually impaired people, special “Virgo” software for computers has been  translated into Azerbaijani and located.


It was informed that, in order to identify ICT needs of blind and visually impaired people, a survey was held among 12 thousand respondents in various regions of Azerbaijan and “The National Strategy to Remove the Digital Difference” was developed. Provided with equipment imported from abroad, the centre was supplied with “Pronto” and “Braille” printers and other necessary equipment.


The President of Azerbaijan highly appreciated the conditions created at the Centre and congratulated the personnel on this occasion.
