A protocol of intent to build a French school in Baku was signed

Heydar Aliyev Foundation, French Embassy in Azerbaijan, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan and Ministry of Education signed a protocol of intent to build a French school in Baku, March 1. In the meeting held at Heydar Aliyev Foundation prior to the ceremony of signing, Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP, said the French school will play a positive role in the development of education in Azerbaijan.


Highly assessing the relationship between Azerbaijan and France, the First Lady of Azerbaijan valued the opening of the school as a next step in the successfully developing cooperation between the two countries:  


I am very glad for participation of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in this project along with public institutions. I hope the French school will soon commence to operate in our country and it will have a positive influence in education in Azerbaijan. Development of education is priority in Azerbaijan today. Such a school in our country will encourage this process significantly. I express my gratitude to all involved in this project. I know, huge job has been done so far. I hope we will build a fruitful cooperation in future too.


Noting wealth of every state is its human factor, Mrs Aliyeva underlined the future of Azerbaijan depends on educating children and youth. This is why, education is priority in our country and special attention is paid to its development, all necessary steps are taken to assure the high-level education of the youth.


French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Gabriel Keller thanked President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva for the support, noting the great importance of this event for Azerbaijan-France relations.


Education Minister Misir Mardanov stressed the works done by Heydar Aliyev Foundation for the development of education. According to him, the Foundation performs the hugest projects in the field of education. At the Foundation’s initiative, over 300 modern educational institutions have been built so far.


President of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev noted the interest by foreign investors in Azerbaijan is rising. He said such an educational institution is a nice contribution for children of French-speaking people working in the country.


Then, the protocol was signed by President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, French Ambassador Gabriel Keller, President of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev and Education Minister Misir Mardanov.


Creation of the school, which admits education of French-speaking foreigners temporarily and permanently living in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani citizens in French language, meets the interests of both countries. Construction of the French school that will function according to the national education system of France will become an important factor in the cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of education, culture and linguistics. 


Under the protocol, the educational plan of the French school will start from kindergarten and correspond to the classic French model used in the 12-year institution of general education. The education program will be carried out in French language. The French government will recognize the school’s certificate that will meet the standards and requirements of the National Education Ministry of France. Alumni of the school will have opportunities to pursue their education in any higher education institution of France. The school will also contribute to the formation of high qualified specialists and enhancement of economic ties between Azerbaijan and France. 


President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva expressed hope for continuation of such a fruitful cooperation in future.
