The centre for children and youth with impaired vision in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was created in 1947. Buildings of the centre were constructed in 1966 and 1975. The building suffered major damage during the war. Repair works were carried out here in 1996. UNESCO, CBM (Germany), Italy’s Lombardia region, Jen non-government organization of Japan and other organizations have provided support to the restoration of the centre.

The centre has been reconstructed following the initiative and with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. On June 8, the centre was inaugurated after the reconstruction. Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva and state officials of Bosnia and Herzegovina attended the inauguration ceremony.

Consisting of two buildings, the centre has been reconstructed to modern standards. This will allow to ensure operation of the establishment in an integrated manner. Additionally, a sport hall was constructed. All conditions have been created in the swimming pool for children and youth’s rehabilitation.

The centre organizes and provides preschool and primary education, ensures that blind and visually impaired children master professions here. Children that have lost their vision later pass here the rehabilitation stage.

The education  includes history, ecology, literature, journalism, puppet theatre, debates club, foreign languages, mathematics, music, sport and other sections. The visually impaired are taught the rules of using information technologies.

In future,  the Heydar Aliyev Foundation will provide the Centre with special equipment,  and publications compiled in Brail alphabet will be sent here.

The centre is attended by blind and visually impaired children from all regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
