On October 29, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening of a new building for the mixed type children home constructed in Sheki city by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

According to the information given, the previous building of the mixed type children home at Genjler street in Sheki was constructed in 1897 as a private house by merchant from Sheki Zulgadar Zulfugarov, and was used for this purpose until 1930. Since 1930, the Sheki city mixed type children home had been operating in this house. As the building where the children home was located was in emergency condition and the existing infrastructure did not allow easy inhabitation, it was impossible to provide proper service to children. In 2017, representatives of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation became familiarized with the existing conditions in the Sheki mixed type children home. With a view to improving the living conditions of the children residing in the children home, organizing their education and leisure, construction of a new building started following the instructions given by President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva. A two-storied building with total area of over 2 thousand square metres was constructed in an area of one hectare allocated for the children home in Sheki city.

The children home is designed for 80 children of all age groups. 60 children aged 3 to 20, deprived of parental protection, from Sheki and neighbouring districts are dwelling in the children home. The building accommodates sleeping rooms for 2, 3 and 4 people, located separately for girls and boys, provided with necessary inventory and equipment, as well as nurse rooms, a library, computer rooms, a music room, a workshop, a sports hall, physician and medical nurse rooms, a recreation room to make sure children spend their free time efficiently, a kitchen, a canteen, and a laundry. A kindergarten for preschool age groups designed for 20 children is also functioning here.

A sports ground with the area of a thousand square metres has been built in the children home’s front yard. In addition, shelters and a playground for under-age children have been created in the open air. Green zones have been laid out on the territory, where various fruit trees and other types of tree are planted. The area where the building is located has been improved, covered with asphalt and stone plates, and an illumination system installed. A basement to meet the administrative and economic requirements has been constructed, and a permanent water, heating and cooling system, a generator, stabiliser, as well as fire alarm and video surveillance systems installed. Necessary equipment and a bus have been donated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to the children home.
