Nasimi Festival: presentation of ancient carpets returned to the Homeland take place in the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum

On September 28, presentation of the carpets “Nakhchivan”, related to the 17th century, and “Hajigayib”, related to the 19th century, presented to the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, took place at the museum.

The event was organized in the framework of the Nasimi-Poetry, Art and Morality Festival, held with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

Both the carpets have been presented to the museum in the framework of the project “Returning rare Azerbaijani carpet examples to the historical Homeland” by the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum.

Related to the 17th century, the carpet “Nakhchivan” became the pearl of the museum’s collection, having been returned to the country at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. The carpet has been decorated with “Chalabi” Lake, shaped in an abstract form, and large palmette elements. Harmonic unity of white, gold, blue and other colours in the patterns add special beauty to the composition. The sizes of the carpet, the composition created with high professionalism and harmony of the colours testify to its being woven in a large workshop by a special order.

This work of art is the third exhibit presented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to the museum. Earlier, the Foundation had presented the carpet “Khatai”, related to the 17th century, and an embroidery related to the 18th century.

Related to the 19th century, the carpet “Hajigayib” was presented to the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum by Italian collector Mirco Cattai. The carpet has been adorned with “kilimgulu”, “kataba” and “burma” elements. The edging with “candlestick” and “dragon” elements in the upper section of the carpet add special beauty to the composition. The carpet’s colour tinges are harmonious and stable.

The museum’s “Pile carpets” collection has been enriched with six rare carpets in 2018, including these art examples.

“Mugham and Spirit” Group and ancient music instruments ensemble “Echo of Centuries” under the National Conservatoire of Azerbaijan performed at the ceremony.
