Operations were performed on a group of persons with hearing deficiency in the framework of the programme “Cochlear implantation” supported by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
These people, with inherent and acquired hearing deficiency, belong to various age groups, with majority of them being children.
In the framework of the programme being implemented following the initiative of President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, free-of-charge medical examination of persons with hearing deficiency are arranged, after which they are operated.
An electronic Cochlear implant is a sophisticated device being applied to people with inherent and acquired hearing deficiencies. First, people with hearing deficiency are medically examined, following that, their compliance with Cochlear implantation operation is determined, thereafter, a surgery and rehabilitation period starts.
A medical device with special electrodes - a Cochlear implant – is inserted into the inner ear during the operation. And a microprocessor and a transmitter ensuring that sounds are transmitted into electrical impulses are connected to the outer part of the ear. Stimulation of fibres of the auricular nerves in the inner ear’s helix allows the brain structures to recognize sounds. After the operation, patients develop a hearing capacity, and people with hearing and talking deficiencies are enabled to return to a normal lifestyle.
Specialists underscore that such operations on persons with inborn hearing deficiency are more efficient if they are carried out at early ages.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation implemented the programme “Cochlear implantation” in 2015. Later these operations were continued with the support of the Foundation. To date, Cochlear implantation operations have been carried out on over 200 persons in the framework of the Foundation’s programme.
