A new page has been written in the history of Azerbaijani culture thanks to high concern of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP.
The art of ashyg, one of the most ancient samples of Azerbaijani cultural heritage, has been included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List by final decision of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee adopted at the 4th Session of the Committee on September 30 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Besides, the Session has included in the List Novruz Bayramy, which was presented to UNESCO as a sample of international intangible cultural heritage celebrated in several states.
This success is the result of the purposeful policy conducted by President Ilham Aliyev and huge attention he pays to culture of our nation. Works done by First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP Mehriban Aliyeva towards popularization and propaganda of Azerbaijan’s intangible cultural heritage, in particular arts of mugham and ashyg, national traditions have played significant role in achievement of this success. Just thanks to care and attention of Mehriban Aliyeva, the art of mugham of Azerbaijan was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2003.
