Baku Marathon-2019 is held with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation

On May 5th, the Baku Marathon-2019 took place with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

 

President of the Baku Media Centre Arzu Aliyeva participated in the Marathon.

 

Organized for the fourth time already, under the slogan “Win the Wind”, the marathon started on the State Flag Square, ending at the Baku Olympic Stadium, covering the distance of 21 kilometres.

 

The project aimed at supporting sport’s advancement, advocating healthy lifestyle, and bringing people together for benevolent purposes. People over 16 participated in the competition, having been registered beforehand.

 

22 thousand 320 people were registered this year to participate in the marathon, which attracts more and more people each year. Along with Azerbaijanis, people from other countries, including USA, UAE, the Great Britain, South Africa, France, Iran, Russia, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Ukraine, Uganda etc., joined the marathon. In addition, over 300 foreigners, residing and working in Azerbaijan, including representatives of embassies and diplomatic offices of UAE, China, India, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Morocco, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan etc. in Azerbaijan were among the marathon participants.

 

State officials, public and political figures, renowned people of culture and art, and sportsmen/women participated in the marathon. Representatives of various organizations and companies got registered as corporative participants.

 

A group of Garabagh War invalids who were provided with artificial limbs with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation joined this year’s marathon.

 

People from Astara, Ganja, Gabala, Guba, Gusar, Lankaran, Mingachevir, Nakhchivan, Sumgait, Shamakhy, Sheki, Oghuz, Zagatala and other districts of Azerbaijan too participated in the competition.

 

This year’s marathon was remembered with a series of novelties. The most important one was application of the chip (time-keeping) system. A special device - a chip - was fixed on a runner’s number sheet. The application of the system allowed to see the indices of each marathon participant in detail along the route, track the results at the time of crossing the finish line and provide the participant with an electronic certificate.

 

The training zone was created for the first time at the start of the marathon, and warming-up movements demonstrated.

 

Various entertaining programmes were presented along the route, and marathon participants were accompanied by DJs, presenters and drummers.

 

Some of the participants joined the marathon in various interesting costumes, which drew attention and made the event more colourful.

 

Fans who were gathered at the Baku Olympic Stadium saluted those who “won the wind”. The awarding ceremony too took place at the Baku Olympic Stadium. Winners of the Baku Marathon 2019” were defined on two categories. Among men, athlete from Uganda Ismail Ssenyange came to the finish line first, with Iranian sportsman Mohammad Jafar Moradi being second, and our fellow citizen Elman Abyshov third. Valentina Poltavskaya from Ukraine, Susanne Matonti from Scotland and Anna Yusupova from Azerbaijan arrived at the finish line 1st, 2nd and 3rd, accordingly.   

 

In each of the men and women categories, the winner of the first place were awarded 3000 Manats, with the holders of the 2nd places being awarded 2000 Manats, the 3rd place 1000 Manats, plus presents, medals and certificates.

 

Moreover, the exclusive partner and sponsors of the marathon presented a series of awards to participants on different nominations. Students who crossed the finish line first on women and men categories won a holiday in Disneyland in Paris, and corporate participants gained registration and return tickets to the Istanbul marathon.

 

Azerbaijani participants of the marathon were presented awards on a number of nominations. First Azerbaijani citizens crossing the finish line first gained the right to participate in the marathon “Wings for Life World Run 2020” to be held in Georgia. In addition, Azerbaijanis over 50 who crossed the finish line (on women and men categories), as well as 5 Azerbaijani women reaching the finish line were given different presents.

 

A marathon runner with an interesting costume, who crossed the finish line, as well as 10 foreigner- marathon runners and 3 women were rewarded on different nominations.

 

Two persons- winners of the lottery held among those registered for the marathon in the course of March 4 to May 1 were presented gifts.

 

Moreover, 1000 participants who crossed the finish line were honoured with a special medal of the Baku Marathon-2019.

 

The funds collected on the Baku Marathon-2019 will be directed to the project by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation associated with children deprived of parental protection.
