All-Republican Olympiad on Information Science is launched

The first stage of the “All-Republican Olympiad Among Higher School Students” was launched with joint organization support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies (MTCHT), the Ministry of Education, and the Information Technologies Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Science.  

 

Being held for the 11th time, the Olympiad is dedicated to 17th May – the Day of Worldwide Telecommunication and Information Society. The Olympiad is aimed at increasing the knowledge of higher school students in information science, programming, and interest towards this sphere, as well as attracting students distinguished in this area to international Olympiads.

 

The Olympiad consists of two stages. Within a month prior to the first stage, registration of the teams representing higher schools of the republic is carried out on the Olympiad’s website “www.olimpiada.az”. Each team is formed of 1 teacher (as a head) and 3 students (bachelors). Maximum 4 teams from each education institution are allowed to participate in the first stage of the Olympiad.

 

In the last 10 years, 40-50 teams (160-200 participants) from 10-15 higher education institutions joined  the first stage of the Olympiad each year.

 

This year, 52 teams from 24 higher schools were registered via the website www.olimpiada.az, and gained the right to participate in the Olympiad. Along with the capital, higher schools located in the regions, in particular, students of the Ganga, Mingachevir and Sumgait state universities, the Azerbaijan Technology University, as well as the State Agrarian University of Azerbaijan showed special interest toward the Olympiad.

 

208 students jointed the Olympiad this year. Over 20 girls are participating in different teams.

 

The Olympiad is held via the website www.e-olymp.com/az in accordance with the rules of “ACM/ICPC” (ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest Among Higher School Students) and “IOI” (International Olympiad in Informatics Among Pupils). In accordance with the rules, only one team from each education institution with the best result shall gain the right to the finals of the Olympiad. 4 teams with the best results in the finals will be announced winners.

 

The winners will be rewarded with valuable presents from “Nar” mobile operator and “BestComp Group”, as well as certificates of honour and diplomas by the Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies.

 

The next stage (finals) of the Olympiad will takes place at the Information Technologies Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Science, May 6.
