Azerbaijan-Russia Friendship Bridge was built in Astrakhan due to support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Decision on the construction of the bridge was adopted during the visit of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan to Astrakhan in 2010. In May 2011, the foundation laying ceremony of the Friendship Bridge was held as part of the 1st Russia-Azerbaijan Regional Forum “Russia-Azerbaijan: Towards the New Horizons of Interregional Cooperation”. Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva attended the opening ceremony of the bridge on September 12, 2012.

The bridge that connects the Heydar Aliyev Park to the Peter I Square is 50m in length and 6m in width. Rails in the bridge reflect the symbols of Baku and Astrakhan – Maiden Tower and Astrakhan Kremlin.
