The Baku Marathon 2024 was held following the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Over 18 thousand people participated in the marathon. Along with Azerbaijani citizens, foreigners residing and working in the country, as well as citizens of Germany, China, France, Georgia, India, Iraq, Iran, Italy, Canada, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia, Syria, Türkiye, Ukraine etc. joined the marathon.
Over 200 persons from different areas competed as honorary participants. Persons in need of special care too participated in this year’s marathon.
Held under the slogan “Win the Wind”, the marathon covered the distance of 21 kilometres. Both start and finish points of the marathon were at the State Flag Square, with the route covering the Seaside Boulevard, as well as some central streets and avenues of the capital.
Winners were determined at the end of the sports competition. In the competition of women, Natalia Semenovich from Ukraine, the winner of the Baku Marathon 2023, took the first place.
Representing Azerbaijan, Anna Yusupova took the second place, while Nelli Gaitova from Kazakhstan arrived third.
In the competition of men, Ahmet Alkanoğlu from Türkiye took the first place, with Bogdan Semenovich from Ukraine being second and Ismail Senyange from Uganda third.
The winners of the first three places were rewarded with 3,000, 2,000 and 1,000 Manats accordingly, as well as medals and diplomas.
