A Tree per Person Project
In 2007, “A Tree per Person” campaign was launched by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation
with a view to improving the environment and enhancing the ecological situation. By planting 20
thousand saplings of evergreen trees in the abandoned areas of Baku’s suburbs, the Foundation
initiated a project that got a broad public response indeed.
Within a short period of time, this initiative was widely supported all over Azerbaijan in a
form of landscape gardening campaigns that resulted in over a million trees and shrubs planted
in the country.
The Project for Gazelles Protection and Reintroduction, and Restoration of their Original
Habitat in the Republic of Azerbaijan
With the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural
Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan is currently conducting the project on The Gazelles
Protection, Reintroduction and Original Habitat Restoration in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The project in question is of exceptional importance from the standpoint of retention of
natural environmental balance, environmental history and biodiversity in the country. The
project envisages reintroduction of 150 species of gazelles equipped with signal collars to the
Gobustan-Jengichay Preserve, one of the major historic deer habitat areas, and their further
tracing through satellites. Pursuant to the project, existing problems of gazelles’ habitation shall
be studied and addressed, with water and nutrition supplies provided in arid areas. Rapid
reaction anti-poacher groups shall be manned and equipped in due course to protect the gazelle
population, the project area regularly monitored, with important biotechnical steps taken in due
time and environmental awareness campaigns for the local population conducted. Introduction
of the first flock of gazelles to the Preserve was accomplished in December 2010.

From waste to art” international exhibition
Opening of the international exhibition “From waste to art” was held at the Gala State
Historical and Ethnographic Museum with organizational support from the Heydar Aliyev
Foundation, “Icherisheher” State Historical and Architectural Reserve and “Clean City” OJSC,
June 1. Various pieces of art made of domestic waste were demonstrated at the exhibition.
The primary objective of the exhibition was to divert people from wastefulness and make
them abstain from habits to throw away used items they possessed without thinking, and prevent
the environment from being contaminated.
