with assistance and organizational support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the English
version of “Baku” magazine. Works by 21 artists in pictorial, graphics, sculpture, photo and
video genres were displayed at the exhibition.
An exhibition entitled “ Flight to Baku. Contemporary Art of Azerbaijan”
was held first
in April 2012 in Paris, and in November in Berlin. With its special place among events held by
the Heydar Aliyev Foundation on promotion of Azerbaijan in the world, the exhibition took place
at famous mansion Salomon de Rothschild in Paris.
On April 18, 2011, an exhibition entitled
Contemporary works of Azerbaijan – a Land
of Fire”
was opened in Paris. With demonstration of 33 works of our country’s 18 artists, the
exhibition was an excellent chance to deliver the Azerbaijani character to Western viewers.
On July 16, 2011, an exhibition entitled
Cultural Treasures of Azerbaijan”
was opened
within the framework of the
Second Ramatuelle Classic Music Festival
in French city of Sen-
Trope on the initiative and with organizational support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Carpet products, ancient copper dishes and items, national musical instruments, photos and
national garments were displayed at the exhibition. 50 carpets and kilims displayed at the
exhibition presented all directions of the Azerbaijani carpet school by geographical area,
patterns, compositions, colour solutions and technical features. Great interest aroused also
ancient copper jars and items made in various regions of Azerbaijan that were displayed at the
exhibition. National music instruments attested to Azerbaijan’s music history going far back to
centuries. Being our old national music instruments, tar, gaval, kamancha and balaban visually
demonstrated to the visitors of the exhibition that these instruments belonged just to the
Azerbaijani people.
On July 17, 2011, Azerbaijani musicians took part in
the
Second Ramatuelle Classic
Music Festival
held in a French city with the same name, with support from the Heydar Aliyev
Foundation. The State Chamber Orchestra of Azerbaijan named after Gara Garayev directed by
People’s Artist Teymour Goychayev performed 11 classical music pieces comprised of world-
renown Azerbaijani composers such as Gara Garayev, Fikret Amirov, Arif Malikov, Farhad
Badalbeyli, Tofik Kouliyev, Vagif Mustafazade and world classics Mozart, Chaykovski and De
Bussy.
On September 15,
an exhibition devoted to Azerbaijan
was opened, following the Heydar
Aliyev Foundation’s initiative, at the building of the 7
th
municipality of Paris. The exhibition was
devoted to the Maiden Tower, one of the symbols of Azerbaijan. At the exposition were presented
works displayed in the years 2010 and 2011 at the international exhibitions “Maiden Tower” in
Baku. 18 works of artists were presented at the exhibition. All these works are uniting one idea:
preserving the world’s cultural heritage. A photo-exhibition reflecting today’s development,
history and culture of our country was organized in Paris, as well as national musical
instruments of Azerbaijan presented. Then masters of art of Azerbaijan performed with an
interesting concert program.
On April 20, 2012, inauguration of the
monument to great master of word Nizami
Ganjavi
was held with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and participation of the
Azerbaijani Embassy in Italy,
in famous “Villa Borghese” Park.
