Azerbaijan through a Foreign Lens” praised varied and ancient culture, rich
architectural traditions and the recent development of our country. All the photos exhibited
belonged to the personal collection of the foreign diplomats and businessmen, which made the
event even more interesting.
Children and War” art exhibition
An art exhibition entitled “Children and War”, dedicated to the 20
th
anniversary of
Khojaly genocide, took place in February, 2012. More than 1200 art works were presented to
the exhibition, organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Education. The
exhibition, being held with the initiative of the Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation,
Leyla Aliyeva, aimed to inform the youth about the Khojaly genocide – the biggest and most
tragic genocide in Azerbaijan and in the world, honor our martyrs and to increase patriotism
among schoolchildren.
The Pleasure of France” art exhibition in Baku
The art exhibition “The Pleasure of France” was opened with the initiative and support
of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in the National Art Museum in March, 2012. The exhibits were
from the collections of Louvre and Orsay Museums, The Palace of Versailles, Pompidou Center,
as well as from Marseilles, Lyon, Nice and other cities of France. The authors of the works
included famous artists, like Edgar Degas, Auguste Rodin, Anri Tuluz-Lotrek, Jean Baptiste
Simeon Chardin, Eugene Delacroix, Auguste Renoir, etc. More than 400 pieces represented
French art since Renaissance until the modern ages.
Afrovision – Modern Art From Africa” art exhibition
Museum of Modern Art hosted the “Afrovision – Modern Art from Africa” art exhibition
in May, 2012. 63 art pieces by 11 artists representing 7 countries in Africa were displayed at the
exhibition. The themes of the works were dedicated to the struggle for the values and beliefs,
characteristics of the fashion world, African folklore, etc.
The Maiden Tower International Art Festival
In 2010-2012 the Gyz Galasy (Maiden Tower) International Art Festival was held in Baku
under the auspices of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Icherisheher (Inner City) State Historic
&
Architectural Administration under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Republic and
the Modern Art Museum.
