The activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation
in the field of public health
With high priority attached to social welfare issues, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation is
actively involved in addressing healthcare issues in the projects it undertakes. Stretching the
helping hand to children and teenagers from children homes and boarding houses, as well as
children from martyr, refugee, internally displaced and low-income families is among the
Foundation’s major duties.
Within the Highest Care for Children with Diabetes Project, launched in 2004, children
below the age of 14 affected by diabetes in Azerbaijan are regularly provided with insulin and
syringe pens for injection.
Medical institutions renovated and furnished with up-to-date equipment in Khazar District
of Baku include the Turkan Area Polyclinic and Emergency Medical Service, the Shuvalan
Hospital, the Zira Treatment & Diagnosis Center and Hospital No.34 in Pirshaghy. In October
2008,
a new hospital was erected in Qala settlement with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s
support, while the local emergency medical service station and pharmacy supplied with modern
medical equipment.
A new Thalassemia Center, Psycho-neurological Child Center, Rehabilitation Center for
the children with special needs have also been built in Baku by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Following the Foundation’s initiative, blood drive campaigns were held on a regular basis
in both the capital city and the countryside, followed by surgeries for children affected by
cardiac insufficiency and cleft lip, medical examination of children from low-income families
and other events of this kind.
In 2011, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation provided financial support to the Rostropovich-
Vishnevskaya Foundation to implement the “Pregnant Women’s Hepatitis B and HIV Diagnosis
and Newborn Infants Prophylaxis of Hepatitis B Virus” Program by the Rostropovich-
Vishnevskaya Foundation.
The Foundation maintains close ties with a number of world leading healthcare
companies. The up-to-date equipment and medicines donated to the Foundation by companies
like Fresenius Medical Care, Karl-Storz, Servier, as well as by the Embassy of the Republic of
Greece in the Republic of Azerbaijan, were distributed among various medical institutions in the
country.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has implemented numerous events outside Azerbaijan as
well. In December of 2010, the Foundation presented a “Sobol” ambulance furnished with
special equipment to the child onco-hematology center of the regional clinical hospital N1 in
Yekaterinburg.
On behalf of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, an ambulance, provided with special blood
transfusion and small laboratory and 2000 blood transfusion packs were presented to the Hamza
Charitable Foundation, which includes several hospitals dealing with cure of children suffering
