got computers and classroom technical aids for interactive training. Series of training courses
were held with the view to creating conditions for the students’ comprehensive development.
To further promote patriotic sentiments among the institutionalized children and better
arrange their leisure time, series of mass events, festivities and contests, talent shows, music and
dance performances, drawing and carpet-weaving classes are regularly conducted by the
Heydar Aliyev Foundation. During the period of its operation, the Foundation provided all
music hobby groups at the institutions supported by new musical instruments and other
accessories. Major repair of Music School No.38 for visually impaired children was arranged by
the Foundation in 2008, with new classrooms added, and heating, gas, water and power supplies
arranged. Inauguration ceremony of the newly renovated and furnished musical school took
place in 2009.
A 50-unit dormitory for institutionalized girls above the age of 18 in Nizami administrative
district of Baku was erected with the Foundation’s support in 2009, with all necessary utilities
and amenities provided. To furthermore expand the views and outlook of institutionalized
children, the Foundation has been fully supporting their participation in various international
contests and tournaments, as well as promoting visits of children from similar institutions
abroad to Azerbaijan.
New School for New Azerbaijan Programme
The major goal of the Programme conducted since the year of 2005 has been to support
the efforts aimed at addressing existing problems in education, establishing new training centers
meeting the world standards in the country, eliminating the obstacles having a direct impact on
the quality of education, and finding out the possibilities for cooperation among various social
strata, as well as local and foreign companies in this field.
In the framework of the Programme, up to 400 school buildings were erected or renovated
in the different regions of the country in 2005-2012, with an overall capacity exceeding 100
thousand school children. Each of the schools refurbished was equipped with up-to-date
laboratories, libraries, cafeterias, state-of-the-art computer classes, workshops, gymnasia and
playgrounds. Each school was equipped with its own heating system.
The Support to Education Project
In the framework of the Support to Education Project, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation
annually supplies first grade students from the families displaced as a result of Armenia’s
aggression against Azerbaijan, with school-bags and stationery. Regular support by new
textbooks and other training aids is provided to the Azerbaijani-populated areas of neighboring
Georgia and the schools in Gakh, Zagatala and Balakan Districts of Azerbaijan with the
Georgian language of tuition.
Special attention is also paid by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to the supplies of teaching
aids and reading materials to the educational institutions. Numerous books and publications
