Mehriban Aliyeva and Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, visited Museum of Modern Art

Mehriban Aliyeva, First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP, and Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, visited Museum of Modern Art, July 29.


Bokova viewed the exhibition at the Museum created on the initiative of First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.


She was told the exhibition is sourced from up to 1000 best avant-garde works of art and sculpture of Azerbaijan from the second half of XX century up to date.


The Museum will join a 2011 European Modern Art Museums Contest which will involve museums from 47 countries.


Mrs Bokova viewed works by outstanding Azerbaijani artists, including Sattar Bahlulzade, Boyukagha Mirzazade, Elmira Shahtakhtinskaya, Tahir Salahov, Omar Eldarov and Nadir Abdurrahmanov.


The UNESCO Director-General also viewed a work by Mehriban Aliyeva, which she presented to the Gyz Galasy International Art Festival in Baku this May.


Irina Bokova viewed the Museum`s Western Europe Hall that displays works by Picasso, Dali and Marc Chagall.


Designed by artist Altay Sadygzade, the Museum includes a child art hall, library, video hall, restaurant and art-cafe as well.


The Museum has a collection of nearly 800 pictures and over 200 works of sculpture.


The UNESCO Director-General had acquaintance with the Museum`s library, which has a collection of nearly 800 books on art. The library is available for subscription.


I. Bokova signed the Museum`s guest book.


She was presented with a keepsake.


The UNESCO Director-General expressed gratitude to the employees of the Museum and rich impressions of familiarization with that.
