Mehriban Aliyeva attends opening ceremony of World Conference on early childhood care and education in Moscow

Opening ceremony of World Conference on early childhood care and education organized in Moscow by UNESCO and Russian Federation’s Government took place on September 27.

 

First Lady of Azerbaijan, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Mehriban Aliyeva and Head of Russia Office of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leila Aliyeva attended the ceremony.

 

The main objective of the forum is to take stock of the progress of UNESCO member states towards achieving the first objective of the global programme “Education for All”. State and government officials of UNESCO member states, researchers, specialists, representatives of international organizations, NGOs, UN institutions, donor organizations were present in the event.

 

Opening the Conference, UNESCO Director General Mrs Irina Bokova mentioned by the UNESCO’s major idea, education is of huge importance in every sphere of human activity. Referring to statistics, she said nearly 9 million children die in the world yearly and second third of them are under 5 because of lack of food. According to her, education strengthens potential of person all the life long. “If we invest for children, we will guarantee our happy and peaceful future”, Bokova added.

 

Underlining the historical importance of the Conference, YUNESCO Executive Board Chairwoman Eleonora Mitrofanova said it will help hold a detailed exchange of views, more deeply analyze the goals set. She informed of Russian experience and programmes performed with UNESCO, state policy on child education and upbringing.

 

Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov noted Moscow possesses great experience in field of solution of problems discussed in the Conference. Based on statistics and conceptual provisions on the social policy of Russia, he thoroughly characterized the situation in Moscow in the sphere and stressed significance of realization of analogical programmes with and due to support of UNESCO.

 

First Lady of Azerbaijan, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO Mehriban ALIYEVA delivered a congratulatory speech in the Conference.


Moscow Vice-Mayor Lyudmila Shvetsova and Minister of Education and Science Andrei Fursenko read out messages respectively from First Lady of Russia Svetlana Medvedeva and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

 

Following the speeches the Conference was continued in sections.

 

A dinner was given in honor of honorary guests of the Conference. First Lady of Azerbaijan, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO Mehriban Aliyeva was present at the dinner.
