President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva and Turkish Prime Minister’s spouse Emine Erdoğan visit Thalassemia Center

May 17, Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP, and Mrs. Emine Erdoğan, spouse of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, visited the Thalassemia Center.

 

Director of the Center Azer Karimov told the Center was constructed as part of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation-initiated “For Life without Thalassemia” Program. He stressed that the Center serves about 40 patients a day. Karimov pointed out there are approximately 1000 people living in Azerbaijan with thalassemia and most of them are under permanent control.

 

The Center which has three regional branches is up to the international standards. Lab of the Center is equipped with device automatically identifying the blood group and other appliances. Donated blood is immediately examined here. 


Mrs. Emine Erdoğan was familiarized with transfusion hall designed for blood transfusion, 12-room clinic, lab and manipulation rooms on the second floor. Mehriban Aliyeva and Emine Erdoğan talked to parents of kids treated here.


Parents said before they were obliged to treat their children abroad under hard conditions and after the launch of the Center this problem has been solved. They expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva for the care and significant health reforms.

 

The spouse of Turkish Prime Minister viewed the Center`s reanimation ward, manipulation and transplantation rooms, sterilization center, molecular diagnostics lab on the third floor, which includes an operation room for transplantation of bone marrow, as well diner and conference hall on the fifth floor. 

 

Emine Erdoğan expressed satisfaction of facilities at the Center.
