First meeting of the Organizing Committee for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 held at Heydar Aliyev Foundation

The first meeting of the Organizing Committee for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 to take place in Baku next May was held at Heydar Aliyev Foundation, July 4.

Chairwoman of the Organizing Committee, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva stated that great tasks and objectives have been set to conduct the Contest at the highest level. The President of the Foundation said the main directions to implement the most important actions must be identified.

Mrs Aliyeva said the proposals on the venue of the Contest are being considered by President Ilham Aliyev.

The meeting went on with discussions on the most necessary issues.

According to the procedures of Eurovision Song Contest organized by the European Broadcasting Union for the best song, the winner country hosts the next contest. By the order President Ilham Aliyev signed on May 19, an Organizing Committee was set up to properly hold Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku City and Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, the initiator of Azerbaijan’s participation in Eurovision, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, was appointed a Chairwoman of the Committee.
