Event at the Mınıstry of Health on the 5th annıversary of establıshment of Heydar Alıyev Foundatıon
Event was held May 2 at the Ministry of Health on the 5th anniversary of establishment of Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Minister of Health Ogtay Shiraliyev said activities of Heydar Aliyev Foundation cover all spheres of the country public life.
The Foundation that started operating on May 10, 2004 aims to study and propagate rich political legacy of Heydar Aliyev, create an obvious idea in future generations on his large-scale activity towards socioeconomic and cultural progress of Azerbaijan, support international projects started by the genius person, help the works implemented in field of promotion of Azeri culture and history across the world.
The Minister underlined Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP, supported over the past 5 years a number of large projects performed in the country. The Foundation initiated big projects in field of health too. One of them was the Highest Care to Diabetes-Affected Children Project. After presentation of the project at the Foundation on December 4, 2004, attention of the public, local and foreign organizations was focused on problems of diabetes-affected children in the country, difficulties in assurance of 310 children aged under 14 suffering from this disease were removed. This work is underway, diabetes-affected children and adults have no need for insulin, glucometer and medicines.
One of important projects the Foundation carried out in field of healthcare concerns thalassemia, which envisages development of donor service to assure people affected with this disease with safe and high quality blood, enlightenment of population, prediction of disease by prenatal diagnostics. In frame of the project experience of Italy, Turkey, Greece and Israel in field of fight with thalassemia was studied, discussions, exchange of experience held with famous thalassemia specialists of a number of countries visiting the country. It all played significant role in training of local specialists. Creation of the well-equipped Thalassemia Center is the valuable contribution of that project to the Azeri healthcare. The Center will be opened soon.

Executive Director of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Elekberov said under leadership of Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva the Foundation has performed a number of significant projects in spheres such as education, culture, science, health, ecology, sport.
Talking of role of Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s representations in foreign countries in its successful activity A.Elekberov emphasized action of Head of the Russia Office Leila Aliyeva.
It was mentioned the Foundation always renders humanitarian help to people suffering from various diseases. If 214 people suffering from kidney deficiency received hemodialysis seances due to state support in 2003, at the moment 1145 ills are freely treated at 14 centers thanks to the dialysis centers newly created by the order of the President and up-to-date medical equipment presented by Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Till August 2006, over 2500 people, many of which are children suffering from heart diseases, were helped due to support of the Foundation. The Foundation regularly assisted to sending of children affected with different diseases to foreign countries for necessary medical examination.
Heydar Aliyev Foundation helps application of new techs in field of healthcare in the country, paying special attention to international cooperation to bring latest medical achievements to Azerbaijan.
Medical centers were built in regions of the country on the initiative of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, free checkup and treatment organized.
Speakers noted President of the Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva always cares about opening of new medical centers, reforms in field of healthcare.
Academician Adila Namazova and MP Rafig Mammadhasanov highly valued the Foundation’s 5-year work.
They stressed the Foundation has great services in field of protection and propaganda of the national cultural heritage.
International organizations have highly assessed the works Heydar Aliyev Foundation has done towards development of healthcare in Azerbaijan, opening of new hospitals and supplying them with new equipment. For exceptional services in field of protection of mother, child and family health Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva was awarded by WHO upon the unanimous decision of session of this organization’s Executive Committee held in Geneva.
