Milli Majlis passes bill on the act of pardon on the eve of Novruz Bayramy

In the sitting held on March 17 Milli Majlis has passed bill ‘On declaration of pardon on the occasion of Novruz Bayramy’ drafted by Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, Member of Milli Majlis.

 

The act of pardon has been adopted with 111 yeas.

 

The act of pardon envisages release of women, who do not pose a serious threat for the public and who did not commit grave crimes, as well as underage persons, first and second category disabled persons, men at the age of 60, persons who have to look for underage children or first and second category disabled children and others. 

 

It is also proposed to pardon women who have to serve a year and men who have to serve 6 months of the overall imprisonment term, all residents sentenced to obligatory and public works, as well as to a fine, with delayed execution of punishment, conditionally imprisoned and others.

 

About 9,000 citizens are supposed to be affected by the amnesty act, on the basis of studies. 1700 prisoners are expected to be released. The act of pardon will completely be fulfilled during 4 months beginning from the date it comes into effect.
