Conference in Istanbul at the initiative of the UN Civilizations Alliance Secretariat and the Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation

Youth Conference was held April 5 in Istanbul at the initiative of the UN Civilizations Alliance Secretariat and the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation on the eve of II Global Forum of the UN Civilizations Alliance Initiative to be held in this city April 6-7. Mrs Leila Aliyeva, Chief Coordinator for Intercultural Dialogue of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation, and Sumeira Erdogan, daughter of the Turkish Premier, were present in the Conference. 

 

L.Aliyeva talked of activity of youth in the globalizing world within influential international organizations and significance of such conferences.

 

It was noted Youth for the Alliance of Civilizations international movement presented in November 2007 in Baku on the initiative of Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP, will henceforth function as the official platform of UN.

 

Isabella Legare, Coordinator of the UN Civilizations Alliance Youth Programme, underlined 100 young leaders from 75 countries present in the Conference will implement projects in frame of the Youth Advisory Board to bring world youth closer. Decisions they will make will be presented to the world leaders in II Global Forum of the UN Civilizations Alliance Initiative.

 

Declaration developed by young leaders was adopted in the Conference. The Declaration reflects problems the mankind faces – migration, ecology, local conflict settlement and so on.  

 

It was mentioned Istanbul Youth Conference is the logical result of actions carried out to promote the Youth for the Alliance of Civilizations movement declared in November 2007 in Baku across the world. As result of purposeful works done under leadership of Leila Aliyeva the movement was recognized by UN, CE, influential international and regional youth organizations. Civilizations Alliance Youth Strategy was adopted in the Conference that brought together youth from different continents at the head of OIC to find solution to problems caused by intercultural differences.

 

Yorge Sampaio, ex-President of Portugal, Ali Sarykaya, aide to the Turkish Premier, Zakir Heshimov, Azeri Ambassador to Turkey, were present in the Conference.
