President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva and Syria`s First Lady Asma Al-Assad visit the Thalassemia Center

First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador, MP Mehriban Aliyeva, Syria`s First Lady Asma al-Assad and Head of Russia Office of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leila Aliyeva visited the Thalassemia Center on July 8. 

 

Health Minister Ogtay Shiraliyev informed the guests of the Center`s activity. He said the Center which receives about 40-50 patients a day was constructed as part of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation-initiated “For Life without Thalassemia” Program.

 

Chief physician Azer Kerimov said there are approximately 1000 people living with thalassemia and about 700 of them are under control. The Center which has three regional branches meets international standards.

 

Lab of the Center is equipped with device automatically identifying the blood group and other appliances. Donated blood is immediately examined here.

 

First ladies Mehriban Aliyeva and Asma al-Assad viewed the Center`s reanimation ward, manipulation and transplantation rooms, sterilization center on the third floor, which includes an operation room for transplantation of bone marrow. Patients are treated 100 days in special closed circumstances. 

 

Visitors were familiarized with transfusion hall and 12-room clinic, manipulation, general lab, ray diagnostics rooms on the second floor. The Syrian First Lady talked to kids treated at transfusion hall. The Center includes special polyclinic to discover the disease.

 

In the talk continued at the tea table Mrs. Asma al-Assad praised the work of the Center.
