The Milli Majlis adopts the Amnesty Act presented by President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva

The Amnesty Act was presented to discussion at the Milli Majlis on May 7.


The Amnesty Act had been included in the agenda of the Milli Majlis following the initiative of Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva in connection with the 90th jubilee of national leader Heydar Aliyev.


MP Mehriban Aliyeva addressed the meeting.


Then the Amnesty Act was unanimously adopted.


The document  will cover some 9 thousand people. It is expected that 2 thousand of them will be released from the places of imprisonment.


In accordance with the project, women not posing major threat to general public and sentenced for less grave crimes, those under 18 at the time of committing a crime, 1st and 2nd group disabled prisoners, men that reached 60, those with underage or 1st or 2nd group disabled children,  persons that had participated in battles to defend Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, those forcibly displaced from their lands as a result of the occupation of part of Azerbaijan’s territory and persons related to some other categories will be released from prisons.
