Fifth Mugham TV Contest comes to an end

On May 29, the fifth Mugham TV Contest came to an end at the Heydar Aliyev Center. The contest took place with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, based on the project of the Azerbaijan Culture Foundation, with organizational support from the Azerbaijani Television and participation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Winners of the four-month 5th Mugham Contest were awarded at an event, which started by performances of the Contest’s participants.

Based on the opinion of the jury, Nisbat Sadrayeva was chosen the winner of the Contest. Mahabbat Safarov and Sadaf Budagova were awarded the second and third places accordingly. Delivering a speech after awarding the winners, People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Alibaba Mammadov thanked Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva for her high appreciation of the art of mugham.

20 young performers had preliminarily been chosen among some 500 contestants that had joined the selection tournaments held in Barda, Shamakhy and Baku. Performances of young contestants were assessed by a jury consisting of such mugham experts as People’s artists Alibaba Mammadov, Arif Babayev, Sakina Ismailova, Mansum Ibrahimov, Ramiz Gouliyev, honoured persons of art Sardar Farajov and Nadir Akhundov.

Performances of the singers who joined the Contest in February this year were broadcast live on Azerbaijani Television and Radio and Medeniyyet TV channels on Mondays and Fridays.

The project has been implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation since 2005, aiming to preserve the art of mugham and bring up a new generation of singers.
