Azerbaijan is represented in the Révélations International Biennial of Crafts and Creation with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation

Azerbaijan is represented in the Révélations International Biennial of Crafts and Creation - which is celebrating its 10th anniversary - at famous Grand Palais Ephemere before the Eifel Tower. Supported by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, enjoying the organizational support of the Azerbaijani Embassy in France, a modern installation called “Under the Single Sun”, created by Elvin Nabizade for the Venice Biennale in 2017 and chosen by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for the Revelations International Biennale, is exhibited in the biennale. Opening of the Azerbaijani stand took place within the framework of the biennale.

Ambassador of Azerbaijan to France Leyla Abdullayeva, Assistant to the Azerbaijani President, Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alakbarov, Deputy Minister of Culture Seadet Yusifova, head of the Azerbaijan-France Interparliamentary Group at the National Assembly Soltan Mammadov, President of the Grand Palais National Museums Union Jean-Paul Cluzel, MPs from Azerbaijan and France and representatives of art attended the inauguration of the stand.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to France Leyla Abdullayeva talked about the projects implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation towards promotion of Azerbaijan’s culture and art, underscoring that works by talented Azerbaijani artists were repeatedly demonstrated in Paris with the support of the Foundation. Noting that the installation in the Azerbaijani stand looked like a rainbow, she said it embodied peace and bright future in our country.

Assistant to the Azerbaijani President, Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alakbarov underscored that sculptor Elvin Nabizade, the author of the installation, was one of the talented sculptors in the Azerbaijani contemporary art, bringing to attention that works by Elvin Nabizade were displayed in a number of galleries across the world. It was noted that this artwork occupied a special place at the Venice Biennale. Among the many works of art being displayed at the Revelations Biennale, this installation draws attention by its uniqueness.

President of the Grand Palais National Museums Union Jean-Paul Cluzel expressed his satisfaction with Azerbaijan’s participation in the Revelations Biennale, underscoring that the primary objective of the Biennale was to discover talents in the sphere of artistic creativity, and promote them. “Revelations” are a message related to solidarity in the field of culture. The Azerbaijani stand reflects the message by the biennale.

Author of the installation “Under the Single Sun”, sculptor E. Nabizade thanked the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for this opportunity they provided for him. After Azerbaijan put an end to the thirty-year Karabakh conflict by the 44-day war, the sculptor decided to give a second life to saz, and, thus, the installation “Under the Single Sun” was created. Consisting of 44 sazs in the form of a rainbow, a symbol of chance, the installation is also a symbol of Azerbaijani multiculturalism, and unity of different peoples living in our country.

With its exclusive installation, the Azerbaijani stand drew attention of not only visitors, but also artists and creative people who have joined the biennale.

Up to 400 artists and creative people from 30 countries joined the biennale. Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, being the epicentre of contemporary creativity, the Révélations International Biennial of Crafts and Creation will continue till June the 11th.
