Shusha Branch of the National Carpet Museum of Azerbaijan

The Shusha branch of the National Carpet Museum of Azerbaijan was restored by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

Located in the Yukhary (Upper) block of the city, the building was constructed in the second half of the 19^th century. Due to the building’s becoming useless during the occupation period, and intervention in the historical appearance, restoration works started here in 2021. As a result of the works done, the interior walls, flooring and ceiling of the building were restored. Gypsum boards used to close doors, windows, ceilings and partitions were dismantled and the building’s historical view was returned to itself. Cracks on the façade were repaired and covered with stones.

Currently, a new carpet exposition is showcased here.

Along with exhibits mainly related to the 18^th to 20^th centuries that had once been evacuated, valuable carpets included in the branch’s collection recent years too are displayed in the exposition. Here are demonstrated, in total, 115 piled and non-piled carpets, carpet products, archaeological finds, sets of national embroidery and clothing, as well as examples of jewellery, and artistic metal.

The artworks being displayed at the Shusha branch of the National Carpet Museum of Azerbaijan give a chance to sense the spirit of the ancient Karabakh land, the life and household of the people who had lived here for centuries, including artisans, their aesthetic taste, artistic view of the world, and to imagine that historical environment.
