Schoolchildren acquainted themselves with the waste sorting process

An international conference under the slogan of “Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.” being held, following the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative, by the “Clean City” OJSC  for children in Qala settlement of Khazar district within the framework of the enlightenment program of the “Clean Qala” project has continued its work.

On the second day of the conference, tours aimed at visually familiarizing children with the waste handling system in Baku were arranged.

First, schoolchildren were informed of the wastes’ complex handling system in Qala settlement, then they watched the processes of sorting and transportation of wastes generated in the settlement. Schoolchildren viewed with much interest the green and blue containers respectively installed in the Qala settlement for food and non-food wastes, explanation stands at waste handling grounds and the process of how waste carrying trucks were controlled via a GPS system.

Then, in order to view the waste neutralization process, a tour to the solid domestic wastes selection factory was organized. Schoolchildren acquainted themselves with the process of waste sorting at the factory operating in a test mode. Schoolchildren were told that, with 200 thousand tons waste treatment capacity, the factory would enable to sort wastes and send them for recycling.

Similar events are expected to be held in future too to raise awareness of schoolchildren and  youth of the waste handling process.
