Days of Azerbaijani Culture start in Cannes with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation

Days of Azerbaijani Culture started in Cannes - named as a world city, with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Azerbaijan’s Embassy in France, and the City Administration of Cannes.

 

Opening of an exhibition of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, called “New Discoveries: New Motifs in Azerbaijani Carpet-making”, took place in the exhibition hall Gare Maritime near the Palace of Festivals and Congresses of Cannes.

 

Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alakbarov and Deputy Mayor of the city of Cannes Frank Chikliaddressed the exhibition’s opening ceremony.

 

Anar Alakbarov gave information about the activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and projects implemented, talking about the contribution made by First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva towards promoting Azerbaijan’s culture throughout the world. He mentioned large-scale humanitarian and social projects implemented by the Foundation in various countries, including France, as well as contributions made to restoration of historical monuments. Touching upon the Azerbaijani carpet school and its history, the executive director said this exhibition was of great importance.

 

“A few days earlier, the 43rd sitting of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee took place. A very important for our country decision was taken at the session. The historical centre of Sheki, together with Khan’s Palace, was entered on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Sheki’s carpet school is represented today at the exhibition in the city of Cannes. At this exhibition, which is the result of the Foundation’s over two-year work, 13 carpets and carpet sketches from the Sheki group of Azerbaijani carpets, by People’s Artist Eldar Mikayilzadeh, are demonstrated”, - said Anar Alakbarov. He thanked everyone who had made contribution to the organization of the exhibition, including those who have woven the carpets, and employees of the city administration of Cannes.

 

Touching upon the significance of the days of Azerbaijani culture, which have turned into a tradition in Cannes, Frank Chiklisaid that promoting close introduction of our cultural treasure, such projects contribute to bringing together the two nations, as well as enriching the bilateral relations. He said he witnessed the care and attention shown towards preserving our deeply rooted old traditions. Frank Chikliunderscored that Baku was the unity of traditions and innovations.

 

13 carpet sketches related to the Sheki group, by People’s Artist Eldar Mikayilzadeh, carpets woven on their basis, as well as technical drawings  are demonstrated at the exhibition called “New Discoveries: New Motifs in Azerbaijani Carpet-making”. In his new carpet sketches related to Sheki group, E. Mikayilzadeh referred to Khan’s Palace, and wall drawings and lattices in the house of Shekikhanovs.

 

Dedicated to this project, a catalogue in the French and English languages will be presented in the framework of the exhibition, which will continue until August 18th. Residents of the city of Cannes coming to visit the exhibition, as well as tourists will have a chance to become acquainted with the documentary about the preparations for the project.
