Azerbaijan Embassy in Romania and Representation of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in this country held a commemorative event due to the 19th anniversary of Khojaly genocide

Azerbaijan Embassy in Romania and Representation of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in this country held a commemorative event due to the 19th anniversary of Khojaly genocide.

 

The event was attended by representatives of local intelligentsia, representatives of the EU and European Parliament institutions in Romania, members of the Romanian delegation to PACE, current and former senators, Azerbaijanis living and studying in Romania, representatives of the Turkic-Tatar community, ethnic Azerbaijanis from Iran, representatives of the Romanian youth awarded with Heydar Aliyev Scholarship, the representatives of embassies and international missions in Romania and the representatives of civil society organizations specializing in human rights.

 

Victims of Khojaly genocide were honored to the minute of silence.

 

Noting that the Khojaly genocide is the most terrible and bloody day in the history of Azerbaijan, the speakers at the event informed about the grave consequences of bloodshed committed by the Armenians.

 

Later, the participants of the event were provided with information on the international information campaign "Justice for Khojaly" initiated by Leila Aliyeva , the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, General Coordinator of the OIC Youth Forum on Intercultural Dialogue. The initiative was highly appreciated by guests. It was also noted that the campaign has completed collecting signatures on a petition to be addressed to world leaders to recognize Khojaly genocide as a crime committed against humanity.

 

The participants got familiarized with the brochures from the series "True Facts about Garabagh" published by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, books "Khojaly genocide (in the documents, facts and foreign press)", and "Khojaly tragedy" and "Armenian myth. Armenian extremism: causes and historical content” published in Romanian.

 

Photo exhibition "Khojaly in the Eyes of Children", reflecting the horrors of Khojaly genocide, was presented.

 

Press release the Embassy made on Khojaly tragedy was sent to the Romanian parliament, public bodies, embassies and international organizations in Romania, NGOs.

 

Romanian mass media widely covered the event, newspapers posted articles about Khojaly genocide, photographs showing the atrocities of the tragedy.           

 

Photo exhibitions reflecting Khojaly genocide were arranged in the buildings where the event took place. Participants received booklets from the series "True Facts about Garabagh" and books talking of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Daghlig Garabagh conflict and Khojaly genocide.
