An event held in Bucharest due to March 31 - the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis - on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation's Representation in Romania

Event was held March 31, 2011 in Bucharest by the Azerbaijani Embassy to Romania due to the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis with participation of Representation of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Romania, Romania-Azerbaijan Friendship Society, Azerbaijan-Romania Culture and Youth Association and SOCAR Romania Office, Azerbaijanis living and studying in the country, Iranian Azerbaijanis and mass media. Information was provided in the event on the history of genocide of Azerbaijanis, atrocities committed by Armenians in 1905-1907 in Baku, Shusha, Zengezur, Iravan, Nakhchyvan, Ordubad, Echmiedzin, Javanshir and Gazakh, destruction of 275 villages, murder of 50,000 Azerbaijanis by Armenians in March-April 1918 in Baku, Shamakhy, Guba, Mughan and Lankaran, tens of thousands displaced from home, destruction of 122 villages in Guba, 150 in Daghlig Garabagh, 115 in Zengezur, 211 in Iravan and 92 in Kars, as well 565000 of 575000 Azerbaijanis living in present Armenia fired and killed during the 1918-1920 repression.


The speakers talked of the 1948-1953 deportation, resettlement of 86300 Armenians in 1946-47 from Syria, Greece, Lebanon, Iran, Bulgaria, Palestine, France, USA, Egypt, Iraq and Romania in USSR and evacuation of 100000 Azerbaijanis in 1948-50 by decisions of the USSR Ministers’ Council.

 

They informed about the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Daghlig Garabagh conflict, the occupant policy of Armenia, Khojaly tragedy, occupation of Kalbajar district of Azerbaijan on April 2, 1993, underlined this genocide is the part of Armenia’s separatist and terrorist policy.

 

The speakers mentioned the historical significance of the Decree signed by national leader of Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev on March 26, 1998 on marking the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis on 31 March, stated achieving the international political and legal assessment of the genocide of Azerbaijanis is one of major duties of our state. 

 

Victims of genocide of Azerbaijanis were honored to the minute of silence.
