The Juma Mosque located in Aghdam city has been restored by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The mosque was built by Kerbalayi Safikhan Garabaghi during 1868-1870. The conservation and restoration work here started in March 2022.
While the city was under the occupation by Armenian armed forces, the Juma Mosque had been burnt by Armenians, subjecting it to acts of vandalism. After the occupied lands were liberated, restoration works started here with the support of “Pasha Holding” Company according to the original architectural style, involving local and foreign experts, and Austria’s “Brugger&KO Restauratoren GmbH” Company.
Materials used in the primary construction works were examined by Austrian experts. Stones and joints on the balcony walls of the mosque were restored after being cleaned off unnatural materials, and works on enforcement of the foundation were performed. Broken minaret stones were restored, and works on restoration and conservation of wooden structures were carried out.
Stones inside the mosque and the entry door were restored, the façade was restored according to its historical appearance.
The piece of stone related to the Aghdam Juma Mosque which was presented to National Leader Heydar Aliyev on May 2000, during the period of occupation, is also showcased here.
