A ceremony of presentation of the “Baku” Magazine was held in Rome

A ceremony of presentation of the “Baku” Magazine was held in Rome, the capital of Italy, April 20.


First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice-president of the Foundation, founder and chief editor of the magazine Leyla  Aliyeva took part in the presentation ceremony.


The English version of the “Baku” Magazine is of great importance in terms of promoting our country in Europe more closely. The Magazine will familiarize the European readers with our rich history, culture, art, nice traditions and cuisine in English. In addition, Azerbaijan’s development and its influential role on the international area, significant projects implemented in our country, wide tourism opportunities and modern lifestyle of Azerbaijanis, nice features of our people also are presented to English-speaking  readers.


Works by well-known artisans have been placed on pages of the Magazine in the photo section. And this, without a doubt, arouses more interest towards the publication.


Having started the publication in 2007 in the city of Moscow in Russian, the “Baku” Magazine has become a  press body being well-known on the international arena, and has been enjoying a high rating. In addition, the English version of the magazine, of which prsentation had been held in Moscow and London cities, now has quite a wide auditorium of readers in Europe.


Having opened the “Baku” Magazine’s presentation ceremony in Rome, well-known TV host Massimo Ginni informed the guests of the cultural values of Azerbaijan.


Speaking about Azerbaijan’s old history and rich culture, Massimo Ginni emphasized that Azerbaijan, which is located at the crossroads of the East and West, today has become a platform for dialogue between world cultures and civilizations.


A number of events related to Azerbaijan have been held in recent periods in Italy. And this serves the better promotion of Azerbaijan in Italy.


Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and chief editor of the “Baku” Magazine Leyla Aliyeva delivered a speech at the ceremony.


Expressing pleasure with presentation of the “Baku” Magazine in the old city of Rome, Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva said the main objective of founding the magazine was to prepare a publication of international coverage.


Noting that the magazine, which started to be printed in the English language since the last year, are distributed now in Rome, Paris, Berlin and New York, Leyla Aliyeva underlined that “Baku” has been providing information about the culture, history, art and traditions, as well as various persons of art of Azerbaijan.


Saying “We have been trying to make this publication be to the Italians’ hearts’ content”, the Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation  provided the Italians with comprehensive information about our country.


Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva told that Azerbaijan is quite a young country. Recently our country marked the 20th year of regain of its state independence. Nevertheless, our  country has very old history. First time in the Muslim East, women in Azerbaijan were granted the right to elect and be elected.


Emphasizing that a school for girls was opened in 1901 in Azerbaijan and the first opera and ballet in the East was created just in our country, Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva said: “Azerbaijan has extremely rich cultural heritage and very old history. Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, not only links the old reflected in the Maiden Tower and Gobustan petroglyphs with the new, but also represents the East and West, the French town-building culture related to the oil boom   of the beginning of the 20th century.


I think our country has always been known for its open-mindedness and tolerance. Cultures, religions and traditions have always come together in our country. I hope that the Days of Azerbaijani Culture organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Rome creates better opportunities for the Italian people to know our  country more closely.


Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva informed also about the multilateral activity of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. She told that the Foundation has been doing great works to promote the Azerbaijani culture abroad, and efficiently cooperating with UNESCO and other international organizations. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has been implementing large-scale projects in the spheres of education, public health, culture and social security.


One of the most important directions of the Foundation’s activity is protection and preservation of ecological health in Azerbaijan and in the region. Saying the International Dialogue Initiative for Protection of the Environment was put forward for this purpose, Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva told Azerbaijan will host this year the “Eurovision” Song Contest, and invited all the guests to our country.


The ceremony was continued with performance of Azerbaijani masters of art.
