A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the United Nations Development Program

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on October 21 at Hilton Baku Hotel between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the United Nations Development Program titled “Mobilisation of Azerbaijani youth for the purpose of preparation for Rio+20 Conference to be held in 2012”.


First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva attended the ceremony.  

 

Delivering a speech at the Ceremony, UN Resident-coordinator for Azerbaijan Fikret Akchura thanked First Lady of Azerbaijan, Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva for their support to this process. Saying this event was an excellent opportunity to declare the national position, F.Akchura underlined the special importance of the International Dialogue for the Protection of the Environment declared by Leyla Aliyeva, the representative of Azerbaijani youth.  

 

Expressing his confidence in further expansion of cooperation links until the conference is held in Rio de Janeiro next year, the UN resident-coordinator for Azerbaijan noted that the idea of an international camp to be organized in November of this year for youths has aroused great interest.

 

Noting Azerbaijan had always shown initiative in matters concerning the environment, F.Akchura stated that this country, which had suffered significant ecological challenges during the soviet period, has now been spending large amounts of funds to the protection of the ecological balance. He also motioned that Azerbaijan has demonstrated a special position with regard to sustainable development in the world.

 

Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva delivered a speech at the ceremony.

 

Then Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva and Fikret Akchura signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the United Nations Development Program titled “Mobilisation of Azerbaijani youth for the purpose of preparation for Rio+20 Conference to be held in 2012”.

 

Then presentation of the Internet site of the International Dialogue for Protection of the Environment - IDEA (www.ideacampaign.org) was held at the ceremony.

 

It should be noted that the project aims at promoting participation of youths in the preparation process for UN Conference on Sustainable Development to be held in 2012 in Rio-de-Janeiro city of Brazil. And the other purpose of the project is to create conditions for paying attention to the ideas of youths on removal of impediments on the way of achieving sustainable development in the country.

 

The International Dialogue Initiative for Protection of the Environment put forward on July 12 of this year by Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva is playing a role of platform for youths to actively join the global movement on sustainable development.

 

State and government officials, members of the Milli Majlis, foreign county ambassadors in Baku, representatives of international organizations and representatives of public attended the ceremony.
